Genshin Impact download size splits into two very different numbers, and mixing them up is where most of the confusion comes from.

The initial install vs the real total

The app package itself is small — on iOS it currently lists at roughly 3.7GB. That is not the whole game. Genshin downloads the bulk of its assets after first launch, and Apple's own listing recommends 60GB or more of free storage, with 40GB given as the bare minimum.

Why it is not one fixed figure

  • Storage requirements differ slightly by platform and by voice-over language pack installed.
  • Every new version adds a region's worth of terrain, quests and voice lines, so the total only grows over time — it has never shrunk between versions.
  • Compressed texture options on some platforms trade a smaller install for slightly lower visual quality.

The practical advice

Do not trust a download size figure that is more than a version or two old. Check your platform's current store listing before clearing space, and budget extra room beyond whatever number it gives you — the post-launch download is always the bigger number.
