PUBG Corporation: What It Was and What It Became
2 min read
The studio that shipped PUBG in 2017 no longer exists under that name — it was folded into its parent company three years later.
PUBG Corporation is the name most players still associate with the game, but the company under that name stopped existing in its original form years ago.
Where it started
Kim Chang-han acquired a small studio called Ginno Games in January 2015. That team became the internal group at Bluehole that built PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, and once the game exploded in popularity, it was spun out and formally renamed PUBG Corporation in September 2017.
Folding into Krafton
Bluehole had already reorganised into a holding structure called Krafton Game Union in November 2018, with PUBG Corporation sitting under it as a subsidiary. In December 2020, Krafton fully merged PUBG Corporation into its internal studio system, rebranding the team PUBG Studios. The corporate entity, as a separate company, was gone.
The name that stuck anyway
Store pages, old press coverage and plenty of community habit still say "PUBG Corporation," and Krafton has not tried hard to correct it — the brand recognition outlasted the org chart change.
Where things sit now
Krafton is publicly listed on the Korea Exchange, headquartered in Seoul, and PUBG Studios is one of several development teams under it alongside names like Striking Distance Studios and Unknown Worlds. The game's day-to-day development answers to PUBG Studios, not to any company still called PUBG Corporation.
