Red Dead Redemption 2 Jack Hall Gang Map 1: Full Solution
2 min read
The first map does not lead to gold. It leads to the second map, hidden on a ledge at Caliban's Seat that is easy to walk straight past.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Jack Hall Gang Map 1 is the opening step of a three-map treasure hunt, and the most common mistake is expecting gold at the end of it. Map 1 only points you at Map 2.
Getting the map
A stranger called Maximo sells it during Chapter 2. He is out on the ridge near Flatneck Station, on the west side toward the Dakota River. He asks $10 and will drop to $5 if you turn him down. You can also rob him for it. Miss him entirely and the map turns up for sale at a fence later.
The Caliban's Seat route
The map draws the rock formation at Caliban's Seat, south-west of Valentine and just below the Horseshoe Overlook camp.
- Ride to Caliban's Seat and approach the rock from the east.
- Climb up toward the top, but stop before you reach the camp.
- Take the narrow ledge along the cliff face, jumping the gaps between ledges as you work along it.
- Keep going until a crevice in the rock wall gives you a search prompt.
Inside is Jack Hall Gang Map 2. There is no gold at this stage — that is normal, not a bug.
Where the hunt goes next
Map 2 points to Cotorra Springs in Ambarino, where the middle stone pile among the geysers holds Map 3. Map 3 leads to the small rocky island in O'Creagh's Run, and the final cache is two gold bars worth roughly $500 each.
Worth knowing
Gold bars only sell at a fence, not a general store. And the dig sites exist whether you are carrying the maps or not, so you can go straight to Caliban's Seat if you already know the route.
