Baldur's Gate 3 Iron Flask: Location and What It Does

A single-use grenade that unleashes something hostile to everyone nearby, you included. Here is where to find it and how to use it safely.

The Baldurs Gate 3 Iron Flask is a story item classed as a grenade, and its in-game description undersells how dangerous it is: "A flask that can hold friends and foes. Likely to make the former the latter."

Where to find it

Inside a locked Caravan Strongbox in the Risen Road Cave, Act One (coordinates roughly X: 39, Y: 628). Miss it there and it can still be looted from Roah Moonglow's corpse after certain quests are finished.

What it does

Thrown at a target up to 18 metres away, it releases a Spectator — a hostile creature that attacks everyone nearby, not just your target. It does not discriminate between your party and whoever you threw it at.

How to use it

Two options once you have it:

  • Investigate it to trigger a short dialogue.
  • Throw it to release the Spectator.

It is single-use, weighs 1 kg, and sells for 480 gold if you decide not to use it at all.

Positioning matters

Because the Spectator turns on everyone, throw it into a group of enemies from a distance rather than near your own party. Some players use it to soften a fight before engaging directly, letting the Spectator do damage before the real combat starts.
