Dota 2 Battle Pass: How It Works

A seasonal purchase with a levelling track built in, historically tied to funding The International's prize pool — though whether one is live changes throughout the year.

A dota 2 battle pass is a paid seasonal track: buy in, then level it up by playing matches or spending Battle Points directly, unlocking cosmetics, treasures and event content as you climb.

How levelling works

Battle Points come from playing games while the pass is active, from completing pass-specific quests, and from buying levels outright. Levels unlock rewards in order, with some of the best cosmetics — often a set for a specific hero — locked behind the higher tiers.

The International link

Battle Passes have historically funded The International's prize pool, with a share of what players spend going straight into the pot the winning team splits. That's why past passes spiked in popularity specifically around TI season.

It isn't always live

Unlike the hero roster, a Battle Pass is a limited-time product tied to a specific season or event — it isn't a permanent fixture of the client. Whether one is currently available, what it's attached to, and what it costs is worth checking directly in the Dota 2 store rather than relying on last season's details, since the format has changed more than once over the years.
