Baldur's Gate 3 Defiled Temple Puzzle: The Full Solution

Four rotating moon tiles, one exact sequence, and a hidden lever that skips the whole thing if you'd rather not bother.

The Baldurs Gate 3 Defiled Temple puzzle — the Moon Tile puzzle — blocks the route to the Underdark during the Find the Nightsong questline, and it has an exact solution rather than one you're meant to feel out.

What it is

Four tiles carved with Selûne's symbol in different lunar phases, each rotatable. The goal: gather every black circle (new moon icon) onto the southernmost illuminated disc.

The solution

One confirmed working sequence, seven moves:

North → North → East → West → South → South → East

Where the hints are, if you'd rather work it out yourself

  • The Dwarf's Poem, obtainable from Klagga in the outer camp.
  • The Selûnite Journal, found in Gut's room.
  • A DC 15 Investigation check from a party member, which works whether or not you've found either document.

The shortcut

A hidden, locked lever at roughly X: 442, Y: 64 bypasses the puzzle outright. It needs a DC 15 Perception check to find and a DC 15 Sleight of Hand check to unlock — cheaper on a rogue than solving seven rotations by hand.

What solving it unlocks

The door to the Underdark, and it advances the Find the Nightsong quest — so this puzzle isn't a detour, it's a required step on that thread either way.
