GTA Online Home Sweet Home: Buying Your First Property

Buying your first place in GTA Online is a bigger decision than the game lets on. Here is what to check before you commit to one.

GTA Online home sweet home is what most players end up calling the moment they buy their first place in Los Santos — and it's a more important purchase than the game lets on.

Why your first property matters

  • It's your save point — the only reliable way to end a session with progress locked in outside of a garage.
  • A high-end apartment with a planning room is required to start the base-game heists, from the Fleeca Job through to the Pacific Standard.
  • It gives you a wardrobe, shower and bed, which sounds cosmetic but ties into several outfit and stat features.

What to look for

Buy for the planning room first, decoration second. Not every apartment has one, and the listing tells you before you pay — check for it rather than assuming the cheapest option qualifies.

After the first one

Extra properties stack: a garage for cars, a second apartment for a different view, an office once you're ready for CEO work. None of it replaces the first purchase, which stays your default spawn point until you set a new one.
