The library job everyone remembers is Secrets of the Restricted Section — a stealth mission that hands you Disillusionment rather than a spell for combat.

When people search Hogwarts Legacy explore the library, they usually mean Secrets of the Restricted Section — the quest built entirely around sneaking through Hogwarts's library after hours.

Getting the quest

It opens after Professor Hecat's Assignment 1, once you have reached level 3 and learned Incendio. Sebastian Sallow is the one who pulls you into it.

What actually happens

Sebastian creates a distraction so you can lift a key from the librarian's desk.
You use the key to reach the Restricted Section, which is off-limits during normal hours.
Past it lies an Antechamber with a bridge, switches and guardian enemies blocking the route through.
A hidden alcove sits off the left side of the bridge — easy to walk straight past if you are not checking the edges.

The real reward

The quest teaches Disillusionment, a stealth spell that turns you briefly invisible. It is not just a library-crawling tool: it lets you sneak past enemies, get closer to beasts before they scatter, and open Eye Chests that are otherwise unreachable. The library detour is really an excuse to hand you one of the more useful spells in the game.
