The Dark Arts Battle Arena is a self-contained combat challenge with gear rewards. It is a pleasant hour, not a chunk of the campaign.

The early access window only mattered at launch and is irrelevant to anyone buying now.

The pricing wrinkle

Deluxe launched around $10 above Standard, and the Dark Arts Pack can be bought separately in-game by Standard owners. So the two routes cost roughly the same amount for the same content — the only thing you cannot buy back afterwards is the early access, which no longer exists.

Buy Standard. If the Thestral and the arena appeal after you have played a while, add the pack then, from inside a game you already know you like.
