League of Legends Account Recovery: The Real Process

Most cases are solved without ever contacting a human. Here is the self-serve reset, what happens when your email is also gone, and what actually prevents this.
Most League of Legends account recovery cases are solved without ever contacting a human, because the process is built around the email address on the account.
If you still have your email
Use the "forgot password" link on the Riot sign-in page. It sends a reset link to your registered email, and that is the entire process — no ticket, no wait.
If your email is also gone or compromised
This is where it stops being self-serve. You will need to file a support ticket and prove ownership another way: your original account email even without access, purchase history, or an approximate creation date. The more of that you supply upfront, the fewer replies the case needs.
If someone else has taken over the account
Report it as compromised rather than just requesting a password reset — Riot treats hijacked accounts differently, and that routes it to the right queue.
Prevention that actually matters
Two-factor authentication is the single biggest lever here — most recovery cases start with an account that never had it turned on. Enable it on the email tied to your Riot account, not just the game.
