League of Legends Events: What's Running Right Now
1 min read
Limited modes, esports skins and champion launches all get called "events." Here is how the categories differ and where to check what is live.
League of Legends events fall into a few repeating categories rather than one single system, and what is live changes constantly.
The categories
- Limited-time modes. Patch 26.15, for example, brought back League of Legends: Classic — a return to Season 3-era champions, items and macro play, run as a time-boxed mode alongside the normal queues.
- Esports tie-ins. Skins tied to competitive results, like the "T1, The Ascended" set celebrating T1's Worlds win, or revenue-share skins such as Broken Covenant Jhin released around MSI 2026.
- Champion launches. New champions ship with their own trailer and a burst of related content — Locke, "The Ashen Exorcist," launched this way in June 2026.
Where to check what's live
The in-client news feed and leagueoflegends.com's game updates page are the only places guaranteed to be current — event windows usually run a few weeks, so anything undated is likely stale by the time you read it.
The pattern worth knowing
Events cluster around the esports calendar — Worlds, MSI, regional finals — more than around a fixed yearly schedule.
