Marvel Rivals Download Size After the Big Shrink

The PC install crossed 100 GB, then an August update handed roughly 40 GB of it back.
The Marvel Rivals download size is one of the few in modern gaming that has gone down. The Season 9.5 update on 7 August 2026 repackaged the game's assets and cut the install substantially.
Before and after
| Platform | Before 9.5 | After 9.5 |
|---|---|---|
| PC | past 100 GB | around 70 GB |
| PlayStation | roughly 60–70 GB | around 37 GB free space |
| Xbox Series X|S | roughly 60–70 GB | around 45 GB |
The saving was roughly 40 GB on PC and 15 GB on console.
The catch on update day
The Season 9.5 patch itself downloaded larger than a normal update, because repackaging existing assets means pulling them down again in their new form. The installed footprint ends smaller; the transfer to get there was bigger. If you were caught out by a huge patch that August, that is why.
What did not change
The reduction came from asset compression, not from cutting visual fidelity. Nothing was removed from the game to hit the smaller number.
Planning your free space
Two practical points. First, a game needs headroom during patching — budget more free space than the install figure, since the updater writes new files before removing old ones. Second, live-service install sizes drift upward between these housekeeping patches, so a figure from a few seasons ago will understate what the game takes today. Check the store page for the current number before you clear space.
