Overwatch 2 Genji Guide: Kit and Climbing Tips
1 min read
Genji rewards a lot of practice before he pays off — his whole kit is built around never standing still.
Overwatch 2 Genji is a Damage hero whose entire kit is built around mobility and punishing mistakes rather than trading damage head-on.
Core kit
- Shuriken — his primary fire, thrown in a spread or a tighter line depending on how you aim.
- Deflect — reflects incoming projectiles back at whoever fired them, including some ultimates; a well-timed Deflect can turn a losing fight around.
- Swift Strike — a dash that deals damage and resets its cooldown on a kill, letting him chain across multiple targets.
- Cyber-Agility — his passive: double jump and wall climb.
- Dragonblade — his ultimate, a burst of guaranteed-hit melee sword swings.
Playstyle
He's a flanker, not a frontline duelist. Use verticality and Swift Strike to pick off supports from angles the enemy isn't watching, and lean on Deflect defensively as well as offensively.
Why he's hard to learn
Every part of his kit — aim, positioning, cooldown tracking — has to click together before he pays off, which is why he has a reputation as one of the roster's steepest learning curves.
