Overwatch 2 Accounts: Battle.net, Linking and Progress
1 min read
Every Overwatch 2 account runs through Battle.net, even on console — here's what that link controls and what it doesn't.
Overwatch 2 accounts are built around Battle.net, no matter which platform you actually play on. A PlayStation, Xbox or Switch account still has to link to a Battle.net account before it can play online.
What the link controls
- Progression — battle pass tiers, unlocked cosmetics and Competitive rank all live on the Battle.net account, not the console profile.
- Crossplay — grouping with friends on other platforms only works because everyone's progress sits in the same place.
- Purchases — coins and bundles bought on one platform are available wherever that Battle.net account signs in.
What doesn't merge
Two separate Battle.net accounts do not combine into one. Blizzard's old console-to-PC merge tool is no longer accepting new merges, so an account created fresh today stays separate from any older one you own.
Keeping an account secure
Turn on two-factor authentication through Battle.net's security settings — it's free, and it's the single biggest thing standing between a phished password and a stolen account full of purchases.
