PUBG Items: The Categories and Where Each Comes From
2 min read
Everything you pick up in a match falls into a handful of categories, and knowing which is which speeds up every loot decision you make.
PUBG items split cleanly into two worlds: what you find during a match, and what you collect outside of one. Mixing the two up is the most common confusion for new players reading guides.
In-match loot
- Weapons and attachments — guns, magazines, scopes, grips and muzzle attachments, all found on the ground, in buildings or in supply crates.
- Armour — helmets and vests in three tiers each, reducing headshot and body damage respectively.
- Consumables — bandages, first aid kits, energy drinks and painkillers for healing and boosted stats.
- Throwables — grenades, smoke and stun items, plus flares for calling in a supply drop where the mode allows it.
None of this carries between matches. It is reset every game.
Persistent items
Cosmetics — skins, outfits, emotes and crate contents — live on your account instead of in a match. These are earned through Survivor Pass progression, event missions, or bought directly, and they change how your gear looks without touching stats.
Crates and coupons
Crates bundle cosmetic items and open with coupons earned or purchased separately. On PC, some cosmetics also trade through the Steam Community Market.
The practical takeaway
If an item affects a fight, it is loot and resets every match. If it changes how you look, it is a cosmetic and stays with your account.
