The Witcher 3 Gwent Cards: How to Collect a Full Deck
1 min read
Gwent runs on five factions, and cards come from beating NPCs, buying from merchants, and a handful of quests built around the game.
The Witcher 3 Gwent cards are collected through play, not menus — there is no shop screen listing every card you are missing.
The factions
- Northern Realms
- Nilfgaardian Empire
- Scoia'tael
- Monsters
- Skellige, added with the Blood and Wine expansion
You build a deck around one faction and its special ability, then add neutral cards on top.
Where cards come from
- Beating NPCs. Most innkeepers and several unique characters play Gwent and hand over a card on their first loss to you.
- Merchants. Some cards are simply for sale, no match required.
- Quests. A few storylines revolve entirely around the card game, rewarding rare cards for finishing them.
The one rule worth knowing
You cannot lose a card you have already won from someone — repeat matches with the same person are for gold and practice, not for taking cards back.
Getting started properly
Play every innkeeper you pass early on. They are low-risk, and collectively they hand over a large chunk of a starting collection for free.
