The Witcher 3 Expansion Content: What Exists So Far

Two story expansions shipped between 2015 and 2016, and a third has now been confirmed. Here is what each one covers.

The Witcher 3 expansion history has three entries once you count the one still in development, and each one is a full paid story addition rather than a small DLC pack.

Hearts of Stone (October 2015)

Smaller of the two originals. Geralt takes a contract involving Olgierd von Everec and the unsettling Gaunter O'Dimm, and the story runs on a wish-based structure with two possible outcomes. It also adds the Runewright, letting you apply permanent upgrade slots to weapons and armour.

Blood and Wine (May 2016)

The larger of the two, set in the sunlit duchy of Toussaint. It adds a new region, a mutation system for late-game builds, and a renovatable house, and it is widely regarded as one of the best expansions ever made for an RPG.

What is coming

CD Projekt Red announced a third expansion, Songs of the Past, co-developed with Fool's Theory, targeting PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2027.

Buying them

Both existing expansions are bundled into the Game of the Year and Complete Editions, which is the cheaper route if you have not bought the base game yet.
