GTA Online Enhanced: What It Actually Changes
1 min read
GTA Online Enhanced is the current-generation build almost everyone is already playing. Here is what it changed and which content it gated behind it.
GTA Online Enhanced is the current-generation rebuild of the game — not a separate product, but the version everyone on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and modern PC now plays by default.
Where it launched
- PS5 and Xbox Series X|S got it first, alongside GTA V's Expanded and Enhanced release.
- PC followed later, arriving via Steam and the Epic Games Store on 4 March 2025.
- Older PS4/Xbox One versions stay on the legacy build.
What changed
- Proper current-gen visuals and much faster loading.
- Career Builder, a progression system that tracks your play style and feeds into rank-gated content.
- Higher player-count sessions became technically possible on this version.
The content it gated
Enhanced was the platform for HSW (Hao's Special Works) upgrades — the first GTA Online content locked to current-generation hardware, unavailable on the legacy version regardless of platform.
Does it matter which version you're on
If you're on PS5, Series X|S or PC after March 2025, you're already on Enhanced. The distinction mostly matters if you're deciding whether to upgrade from an older console.
