Overwatch 2 Character List: Roles and Roster

Around fifty heroes across three roles, none of them paywalled. Here is how the roster is organised and what changed about it in 2026.

The Overwatch 2 character list runs to roughly fifty heroes, and unlike most hero shooters, none of them costs anything to play.

Split three ways

Every hero belongs to exactly one role. Standard role queue is 5v5 — one tank, two damage, two supports — with a 6v6 open queue running alongside it.

Tank — Reinhardt, Winston, D.Va, Orisa, Sigma, Zarya, Roadhog, Doomfist, Junker Queen, Ramattra, Wrecking Ball, Mauga, Hazard.
Damage — Tracer, Genji, Widowmaker, Cassidy, Soldier: 76, Reaper, Sombra, Ashe, Echo, Hanzo, Junkrat, Mei, Pharah, Bastion, Torbjörn, Symmetra, Sojourn, Venture.
Support — Mercy, Ana, Lúcio, Zenyatta, Moira, Baptiste, Brigitte, Kiriko, Lifeweaver, Illari, Juno, Freja.

2026 broke the usual rhythm by adding five at once — Domina, Emre, Mizuki, Anran and Jetpack Cat — so the in-game hero gallery is the only list that never goes stale.

Nothing is locked

Since Season 10 every hero unlocks for everyone, new releases included. Battle passes sell cosmetics only.

Sub-roles

Each hero also carries a sub-role — dive tank, poke damage, main support — which is how the game separates playstyles inside a single role.
