Overwatch 2 Drives: Storage Space and Where It Installs
1 min read
Overwatch 2's install size isn't fixed — it grows with every season, and where you install it affects load times more than people expect.
Overwatch 2 drives questions usually come down to two things: how much space the game actually needs, and whether it's worth moving the install to a faster drive.
Install size isn't fixed
The client has grown steadily since its October 2022 launch as new maps, heroes, voice lines and Ultra skins ship every season. Battle.net's own download screen shows the exact current figure for your platform before you commit to an install — that number is more reliable than any guide, since it changes every season.
SSD vs HDD
An SSD isn't optional if you care about queue times or loading into a match before the enemy team spawns in. On a mechanical hard drive, map loads and the main menu itself both drag.
Moving the install
Battle.net lets you change a game's install location from its settings without a full redownload, as long as the destination drive has enough free space — it copies the existing files across rather than fetching them again.
Freeing up space
Voice packs for languages you don't use are the easiest space to reclaim; toggle them per-language in the same settings menu.
