• PlayStation, Xbox — direct from each platform's own store.
• Nintendo Switch — through the Nintendo eShop.

All of them are a straight free download with no purchase required at any point in the install.

What you need to actually play

A Battle.net account, even on console. The platform download gets you the client; signing in and linking that platform account to Battle.net is what lets you actually queue for a match.

What free doesn't include

The base game and every hero cost nothing. Cosmetic bundles, the premium battle pass track and item shop purchases cost real money, but none of them are required to play any mode, including Competitive.

No catch on account age

There's no trial clock counting down and no feature locked behind a future payment — the free version is the full game, not a demo.
