Call of Duty Black Ops Download: Where Each Game Lives

Seven games across four storefronts, one delisted mobile release, and one that is only legally available on a discontinued handheld.

Where you get a Call of Duty Black Ops download depends entirely on which of the seven games you mean, because the series is spread across four storefronts and two console generations.

PC

  • Black Ops, Black Ops II and Black Ops III are on Steam.
  • Black Ops 4 is Battle.net only — it never came to Steam.
  • Black Ops Cold War, Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 are on both Battle.net and Steam, and Black Ops 6 and 7 are also on Game Pass for PC.

PlayStation

Every mainline entry from Cold War onwards is a straightforward PlayStation Store purchase. The two oldest games were the awkward ones until July 2026, when Activision released native PS5 and PS4 ports of Black Ops and Black Ops II at $39.99 each — the first time either has been buyable on a modern PlayStation rather than streamed through PS Plus Premium.

Xbox

Xbox has the smoothest path: the 360-era games have long been backward compatible, so Black Ops and Black Ops II run on Series X|S from the Microsoft Store. Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 landed on Game Pass on day one, which makes a subscription the cheapest download route for the newest entries by a wide margin.

What you cannot download

  • Black Ops Declassified — PS Vita only, and the Vita store has closed to new purchases.
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies — the mobile game was pulled in December 2021 and its servers were shut off in May 2022.

A note on size

Install sizes have grown steeply across the series: the 2010 game is a handful of gigabytes, while the recent entries run to well over 100 GB once you add multiplayer and Warzone data. Check the store listing for the current figure before you start — it changes with every season update.
