Call of Duty Black Ops for PS5: Every Version Available
2 min read
The original finally runs natively on PS5 as of July 2026 — a straight port with no FOV slider and no 120fps.
Call of Duty Black Ops for PS5 got a lot simpler in July 2026, when Activision shadow-dropped native ports of the two games that had been stranded on PS3.
The new ports
Black Ops and Black Ops II arrived on the PlayStation Store for PS5 and PS4 around 9 July 2026, priced at $39.99 each (£34.99), with a PS Plus discount halving that until 6 August 2026. Each includes the full base game: campaign, multiplayer and Zombies.
They are honest ports rather than remasters. Reporting at launch noted:
- No added content, new maps or behind-the-scenes material
- No FOV slider
- No 120fps support
- Light upscaling for 4K displays rather than a re-render
- DLC sold separately as a season pass rather than bundled
Before this, PS3-era Black Ops was unreachable on PS5 — the console has no PS3 backward compatibility, and streaming through PS Plus Premium was the only route.
The games that were already there
- Black Ops Cold War (2020) — shipped with native PS5 versions at launch.
- Black Ops 6 (October 2024) — PS5 native.
- Black Ops 7 (14 November 2025) — PS5 native, also on PS4.
What is still missing
Black Ops III and Black Ops 4 are PS4 games that run on PS5 through standard PS4 backward compatibility rather than native versions. Black Ops Declassified was a Vita exclusive and has never been ported anywhere. So the only Black Ops entry with no PS5 route at all is the handheld one.
