Call of Duty Warzone Game Modes Explained

Battle Royale, Resurgence and Plunder are the three standing modes, plus limited-time variants that rotate through most seasons. Checked at Season 5.
Call of Duty Warzone game modes split into three permanent options plus a rotating cast of limited-time variants, checked here at Season 5 in August 2026.
The three standing modes
- Battle Royale — the flagship mode: up to 120 players, one team standing, played on the current large-map rotation.
- Resurgence — a faster, smaller-scale format where your squad can redeploy as long as one teammate survives, played on compact maps like Rebirth Island and Haven's Hollow.
- Plunder — no elimination pressure; teams compete to bank the most cash before time runs out instead of fighting to survive.
Limited-time variants
Resurgence in particular gets seasonal spins — Extreme Resurgence and Ultra Fast Resurgence have both run as short windowed events layering extra rules or a faster timer on the base mode.
Ranked
Ranked Play was pulled at the Black Ops 7 launch and is returning as Ranked Play: Resurgence — check whether it's currently live before queuing, since ranked availability has moved between seasons.
The honest note
Exactly which variants are active is a live rotation. Treat the above as this season's shape, not a fixed list.
