Cyberpunk 2077 IGN Review Score Explained
1 min read
IGN scored the PC version highly at launch — the console verdict told a very different story, and both have aged with the game.
Cyberpunk 2077 IGN coverage is really two stories, because the site's launch verdict split hard along platform lines.
The PC score
IGN gave the PC version 9 out of 10 at launch, praising the writing, the city and the character work while the game was running on capable hardware.
The console problem
Base PS4 and Xbox One coverage was far less kind, reflecting the well-documented performance issues on last-generation consoles — frame drops, crashes and visual bugs that were largely absent on PC and later hardware. IGN's own coverage treated the console release as close to a separate product from the PC one.
After the fixes
Once patch 2.0 overhauled the police, skills and vehicle-combat systems in 2023, IGN and other outlets revisited the game in follow-up coverage that was considerably warmer than the console launch reviews — without formally reissuing a new numbered score for the base release.
Reading old scores today
Any review score from December 2020 describes a version of the game that no longer exists on any platform. Treat launch-era IGN coverage as a historical record, not a description of what ships today.
