Elden Ring Jarburg: Where It Is and What Happens There
2 min read
A quiet village of living jars, tucked below Liurnia, holding one of the game's saddest questlines — and one very easy way to break it.
Elden Ring Jarburg is a small village of living jars, hidden below the cliffs of Liurnia, and it is entirely optional — which is why most players walk past it.
Getting there
Jarburg sits just south of the Carian Study Hall. The reliable approach is to fast travel to the Gate Town Bridge Site of Grace and head east to the cliff edge south of the study hall, then take the path down.
Who is there
Jar-Bairn, a small living jar, sits at the top of some stairs at the west end of the village. He wants to become Potentate, and tells you your hands are too rough to teach him.
How the story finishes
It runs through Diallos. Progress his questline at Volcano Manor until he leaves — he departs on his own once Rykard is dead — and he turns up in Jarburg, living in one of the shacks and quietly looking after a jar.
Return later and you find him mortally wounded in the middle of the village, asking whether he managed to keep the poachers away from the jars. It is the pay-off to a character the game spends most of its runtime treating as a joke.
The mistake that ends it
Do not break the jars. Destroying any living jar in Jarburg turns Jar-Bairn hostile to the questline and locks the rest of it permanently. There is no way back on that save.
