Elden Ring Erdtree Seal: Location and When It Wins

The Erdtree Seal is the best pure-Faith seal in the game, but only once your Faith is high enough. Where to find it, what it needs, and when to switch to it.
The Elden Ring Erdtree Seal is a sacred seal for pure Faith builds. It needs 40 Faith, scales with Faith alone, and at very high Faith it has the highest incantation scaling of any seal in the base game. Below about 69 Faith, though, the Godslayer's Seal is better. You find it in Volcano Manor, on a corpse in a cell below the Prison Town Church.

Where to find the Erdtree Seal
- Reach Volcano Manor in Mt. Gelmir and rest at the Prison Town Church Site of Grace.
- Go down into the prison town below the church.
- The seal is on a corpse in a cell, near an Omenkiller. Deal with the Omenkiller first; it hits hard and fast.
How good is it?
A seal's strength is its incantation scaling, the number that multiplies your incantation damage. The Erdtree Seal's comes entirely from Faith:

At 80 Faith and fully upgraded it has the highest incantation scaling in the base game. The catch is the crossover point: it only overtakes the Godslayer's Seal at about 69 Faith. Below that, the Godslayer's Seal is the stronger pick, especially since it also boosts Godslayer incantations.
Scaling values were adjusted in patch 1.09, so older guides quoting different numbers may be out of date.
When to use the Erdtree Seal
- Pure Faith builds at 70+ Faith. This is where it wins outright.
- Healing incantations. Heals only benefit from Faith scaling, and the Erdtree Seal puts everything into Faith. It is the natural seal for a support healer in co-op.
- Not for hybrid builds. It has no Strength, Dexterity or Arcane scaling, so Faith-and-something builds get more from other seals.
What it cannot do
- No incantation school boosts. Unlike seals that raise a specific category, such as dragon or Godslayer incantations, it has no passive bonus.
- No Ashes of War or buffs. It cannot be infused or buffed.
Upgrading it
The seal upgrades with Somber Smithing Stones, up to +10. The jump to S scaling at +5 is the moment it starts to feel strong, so it is worth pushing at least that far before judging it.
