Is Elden Ring Nightreign Cross Platform? Crossplay, Cross-Gen and Co-op

Is Elden Ring Nightreign cross platform? No. PC, PlayStation and Xbox players cannot play together. It does support cross-generation play within each console family: PS4 with PS5, and Xbox One with Xbox Series X/S. PC players only play with other PC players.

Game director Junya Ishizaki put it simply before launch: "Similar to the original Elden Ring, there will be cross-generational play but not cross-platform play."

What about cross-progression and cross-save?

There is no cross-platform progression. Your save, relics, unlocks and Remembrance progress stay on the platform family you play on. Moving from PC to a console, or from PlayStation to Xbox, means starting over.

How co-op works

Nightreign was built for three players, and there are two ways to team up.

Random matchmaking

Pick an expedition in the Roundtable Hold and start it with multiplayer enabled. The game fills the team with players from your platform family.

Playing with friends

Set a multiplayer password in the settings so that matchmaking only puts you with players using the same password.

Solo, duo or trio

• Solo has been available since launch.
• Duos arrived in patch 1.02 (30 July 2025). Set the number of players to two in the Roundtable Hold, and the game adjusts its balance for two.
• Trios are the default and the mode the game is balanced around.

The DLC and co-op

The Forsaken Hollows expeditions need the DLC. Its new raid events and bases also appear in base-game expeditions, but only when all three players own the DLC.

Seamless Co-op for Nightreign

Players who liked the Elden Ring Seamless Co-op mod will find a version for Nightreign, made by the same modder, Luke Yui. It is available on Nexus Mods for PC only and was released in an early, rough state.

What it changes:

• Two- and three-player lobbies with friends, without public matchmaking.
• Separate save files from the unmodded game.
• No connection to official servers, so you cannot meet players on the normal game.

Can you get banned for using it?

The mod is designed to keep you off the official matchmaking servers and uses its own save files, which is why it is considered safe for offline co-op. The risk comes from modifying it to connect to unmodded players, which the mod's author explicitly warns against. As with any mod, back up your save before installing it.

Seamless Co-op does not add crossplay. Everyone in the lobby still needs the PC version.

Will Nightreign get crossplay later?

FromSoftware has not announced crossplay for Nightreign. Elden Ring itself never added it either, so do not buy a copy on a different platform expecting it to arrive.
