Genshin Impact Build Basics: Stats That Matter
1 min read
Before you look up a character-specific build, it helps to know what the pieces actually mean. Here is the system underneath every guide.
Every Genshin Impact build is made of the same four pieces, regardless of which character you are gearing. Knowing what each one does makes every character-specific guide easier to read.
Artifacts
Five slots, two of which have fixed main stats (Flower gives HP, Plume gives ATK) and three where you choose: Sands (ATK%, HP%, DEF% or Elemental Mastery), Goblet (an elemental damage bonus, or Physical/Elemental Mastery), and Circlet (CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, Healing Bonus or Elemental Mastery, depending on role).
Substats
On-field damage dealers generally chase CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG first, then ATK%. Off-field or reaction-focused characters lean on Elemental Mastery instead, and supports often prioritise Energy Recharge so their burst is up when needed.
Weapons
Each weapon type has a base stat and a passive. Matching the passive to the character's role — an ATK buff for a DPS, an Energy Recharge boost for a support — usually matters more than chasing the single highest-rarity option.
Talent priority
There is no universal order. On-field attackers usually raise their Normal Attack talent, while burst-reliant supports and sub-DPS characters put points into Skill or Burst first — check the character's actual damage source before spending materials.
