The main story runs around 31 hours. Add side content and it grows fast, and completionists are looking at 80 to 100-plus hours.

GTA 5 how long to beat comes down to how much of it you actually want to touch — the range between "just the story" and "everything" is enormous.

Main story only

Player-reported completion data puts the main story at roughly 31 to 32 hours — following the missions between Michael, Franklin and Trevor without detouring into side content.

Story plus extras

Add strangers and freaks missions, random events and a bit of exploring, and the figure creeps toward 35 hours, still comfortably a single-player-only estimate.

Full completion

Going for 100% — every collectible, every stunt jump, every side activity — reported times land between 80 and well over 100 hours. That is before GTA Online is even considered, which has no completion point at all.

Planning around it

If you only want the story, block out a long weekend or a couple of weeks of evenings. If you are chasing 100%, treat it as an ongoing project rather than something you finish in a sitting.
