Hogwarts Legacy Exploration Challenges and Their Rewards

Hogwarts Legacy exploration challenges sit in the Field Guide under Challenges > Exploration, and they are the tab that actually pays you for wandering off the quest markers.

The five challenge categories

The Field Guide splits challenges into Combat, Quests, Exploration, Field Guide Pages and Room of Requirement. Exploration is the one covering the world map: Merlin Trials, Demiguise statues, collection chests, balloon sets, astronomy tables, landing platforms and the Infamous Foes.

What they pay out

The single most useful reward line is gear storage. Merlin Trials in particular hand out inventory slots in tiers — four slots at a time, at rising thresholds, so the first few trials are worth doing immediately and the last ones are for completionists. You start the game with a cramped bag; clearing Merlin Trials is the only way to fix that.

Other tiers award conjurations for the Room of Requirement, gear appearances so you can look how you want without sacrificing stats, and cosmetic sets — the full Infamous Foes challenge, for example, unlocks a set of face masks.

Clearing them efficiently

• Unlock the broom first. Almost every exploration challenge is a travel problem, and walking is the slowest possible answer.
• Buy Mallowsweet in bulk. Merlin Trials cannot be started without it, and running out mid-region wastes a trip. The Hogsmeade shops restock.
• Use the map filters. Each collectible type can be isolated on the map, which turns a region sweep into a route rather than a search.
• Fly low over hamlets. Landing platforms, balloon sets and Infamous Foe skull markers only appear on the map once you have been near them.

Do them after the story

Alohomora tiers, Accio, Depulso and Revelio all gate parts of this list. Sweeping a region before you have them means coming back, so the efficient order is: finish the main quest, then clear exploration region by region with every tool available.
