The Witcher 3 Complete Edition PS5: What Changed
1 min read
The free next-gen update turned the PS5 release into a genuinely different build, not just a faster load screen.
The Witcher 3 Complete Edition PS5 version arrived as a free next-gen update on 14 December 2022, more than a year after the original release date it had slipped from.
What upgraded
- Ray tracing support, alongside separate performance and quality display modes.
- DualSense adaptive trigger and haptic feedback support.
- Faster loading and a generally more stable frame rate than the PS4 version running via backward compatibility.
- A wide pass of bug fixes accumulated since the 2015 launch.
The Netflix-inspired content
The update also added a short quest and a set of alternate outfits themed around the Netflix show, included at no extra cost.
Getting it
Anyone who already owned the PS4 version qualified for a free upgrade to the PS5 build — no repurchase needed. Buying it fresh today gets you this version by default; there is no separate "PS4 edition" listing left on the PlayStation Store for new buyers.
What it does not add
Purely visual and performance work — no new story content beyond the Netflix quest, and no changes to the base game's endings or systems.
