Is Call of Duty Warzone Free? The Honest Answer

Free to download, free to play, and no premium Call of Duty required. The catches are the install size and the platforms that have quietly been dropped.

Call of Duty Warzone free is not a promotion or a trial. The battle royale has been free-to-play since launch and still is — you do not need to own Black Ops 7, Modern Warfare or anything else to drop in.

Where to get it

Warzone comes through the Call of Duty HQ app, so it is the same client whether you take it from Steam, Battle.net, the PlayStation Store or the Microsoft Store. Cross-play works across all of them.

The platform catch

New installs are no longer offered on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. Starting fresh means PS5, Xbox Series X|S or a PC meeting the current requirements.

The size catch

Budget well over 100GB. Storefront listings have sat around the 115–125GB mark depending on which you read, and seasonal updates add to that.

What money actually buys

Battle Pass — cosmetics and progression, with a free track running alongside.
Store bundles — operators, weapon blueprints and finishers.
A premium Call of Duty — the campaign, multiplayer and Zombies. Separate games, sharing the same launcher.

None of that gates the battle royale itself. Every map in rotation, including Verdansk and the Resurgence maps, is open to a free account.
