Elden Ring Ensha: Who He Is and How the Fight Works

Elden Ring Ensha, fully Ensha of the Royal Remains, is easy to miss entirely. For most of a playthrough he stands silently against a wall in the Roundtable Hold. Pick up half of the Haligtree Secret Medallion, though, and the next time you return to the Hold he attacks you.

Where to find Ensha

Ensha is one of the quieter residents of the Roundtable Hold. He stands against the wall just to the right of the door to Gideon Ofnir's room, the study where Gideon sits among his books. He never speaks and you cannot talk to him.

What triggers the fight

The trigger is the Haligtree Secret Medallion, the two-part item that opens the way to the Haligtree. Pick up either half, left or right, and the next time you travel to the Roundtable Hold, Ensha invades as a hostile NPC.

If you defeat the Fire Giant without having picked up either half, Ensha disappears from the Hold and the fight never happens.

How Ensha fights

Ensha is a hybrid fighter:

• Clinging Bone, a claw-like fist weapon. He uses its skill, Lifesteal Fist, often. It lunges forward and heals him if it lands.
• Meteorite Staff, with gravity sorceries: Rock Sling, a volley of rocks, and Collapsing Stars, a spread of homing gravity projectiles.

Tips

• Watch for Lifesteal Fist. Roll to the side rather than backwards; the lunge covers distance.
• Close the gap when he casts. His sorceries are dangerous at range and much easier to punish up close.
• He is a single invader with NPC-level health. A strong weapon and a couple of clean combos end the fight quickly.
• The Hold's corridors are narrow. Fight him in the open area near where he spawns rather than in a doorway where his rocks can corner you.

Rewards

• Clinging Bone, dropped on defeat. It scales with Dexterity and Arcane and keeps the Lifesteal Fist skill.
• Royal Remains armour set. It does not drop from the fight: go back to the spot where he used to stand, next to Gideon's room, and pick it up there.

After the fight, Gideon apologises on Ensha's behalf, telling you that "Ensha got rather ahead of himself."

Who is Ensha?

Ensha was the silent follower of Sir Gideon Ofnir, the All-Knowing. The Royal Remains armour calls him a "soulless king" and "lord of the lost and desperate". The implication is that Gideon sent him after the Haligtree medallion. The medallion half hidden with Albus in the Village of the Albinaurics hints that Ensha searched for it there and failed, because Albus had concealed it.

So the ambush is not random: once you have what Ensha was sent to find, he comes for it.
