Is There a GTA 5 App? What Rockstar Actually Released

Searching for a "GTA 5 app" turns up plenty of listings. None of them are Grand Theft Auto V.

There is no official GTA 5 app for phones

Rockstar has never released GTA V for phones. The game runs on PC, PlayStation and Xbox only. Anything on an app store claiming to be GTA V on mobile is a different game, a wrapper around video, or malware.

The one that was real: iFruit

Rockstar did ship an official companion app. Grand Theft Auto: iFruit let you customise cars through Los Santos Customs and train Chop, Franklin's dog, from your phone. It was discontinued on 12 December 2022 and pulled from both the App Store and Google Play, so copies floating around on APK sites are unsupported builds talking to services that no longer answer.

Its most-used feature survived the shutdown: custom licence plates moved to Rockstar's web-based License Plate Creator.

What you can genuinely run on a phone

• GTA: The Trilogy — Definitive Edition — official, on iOS and Android. That is San Andreas, Vice City and GTA III, not GTA V.
• Cloud streaming — GTA V played on a server and streamed to a phone browser, where the service and your subscription support it.

Rockstar's actual app

The Rockstar Games app covers Social Club: friends, stats and crews. Useful next to the game — but it does not play anything.
