PC, PlayStation and Xbox all still sell it new, over a decade after release. Here is what to check before you commit to one.

GTA 5 buy options span every current platform — you can still get it new, more than a decade after it first launched.

The platforms

  • PC — Steam, Epic Games Store or the Rockstar Games Launcher, all selling the same Enhanced build.
  • PS5 and Xbox Series X/S — the Enhanced version, with better load times and visuals than the original release.
  • PS4 and Xbox One — still sold, running the older but fully functional last-gen build.

What actually differs between them

Not the story or the map — that is identical everywhere. What changes is load times, resolution and frame rate, and whether GTA Online runs at its smoothest. Enhanced platforms handle Online's busiest content noticeably better.

One thing worth checking first

PS4/Xbox One and PS5/Xbox Series copies are generally not the same purchase — check whether a listing includes a free upgrade path before assuming you are buying the newer version.

The simple rule

Buy on whichever platform you already play on and already have friends on for GTA Online — the game itself will not steer that decision for you.
