Hogwarts Legacy Elder Wand: What You Can Actually Get

The Hogwarts Legacy Elder Wand is not something you can win, unlock or buy. The Deathly Hallows wand is not in the game as a usable item, and no quest awards it. What does exist is worth knowing, because three different things get confused for it.

Elder wood is not the Elder Wand

Ollivanders sells wands in a range of woods, and elder is one of them. An elder wood wand has no special properties — wand wood, core and flexibility in this game are cosmetic and flavour rather than stats. It is the same wand as any other with a different label.

The Wizarding World import

If you link a Wizarding World account to your WB Games account, the wand that site's quiz assigned you carries into Hogwarts Legacy. If that quiz gave you an elder wood wand — with a phoenix, unicorn or dragon core — that is what you start with. It is a nice touch, but it is still an ordinary wand.

Building a lookalike

Wand appearance is customised separately from wood and core at Ollivanders, and the handle options include shapes close enough to the film prop that a lot of players build an Elder Wand replica. Choose carefully: once you claim your wand, the appearance is locked in for that save.

The one time you hold it

During Niamh Fitzgerald's Trial, the main quest sequence hands you a wand for the duration of the trial. It is a scripted loan tied to that section, and when the quest ends you go back to your own wand. There is no way to keep it, and no subsequent quest returns it.

The honest summary

Elder Wand as a weapon: not in the game. Elder wood wand: yes, cosmetic only. Elder Wand look: achievable at wand selection. Anything claiming otherwise is either describing a PC mod or describing the trial sequence.
