Hogwarts Legacy: Figure Out How to Enter the Ruins

A moonstone, two glowing symbols and three light pillars you have to aim by hand.
Hogwarts Legacy figure out how to enter the ruins is the objective that appears during A Bird in the Hand, the quest where you and Poppy Sweeting work with Dorran the centaur to get poached Snidgets back. The game gives you no hint text, which is why it stops so many people.
Step 1 — place the moonstone
When you arrive, Dorran asks you to place the Scholar's Moonstone on the rock at the centre of the platform. Interact with the rock. Two symbols on the ruined gate will start to glow — note which two they are. In the standard run they are the star and the key with a dot.
Step 2 — read the ground
The ground around the platform carries the same set of symbols, carved in a ring. You are matching the glowing gate symbols to the matching symbols on the floor.
Step 3 — aim the pillars
The light pillars around the platform can be moved with Wingardium Leviosa. Pick one up, rotate it, and set it down so its beam lands on a ground symbol that matches one glowing on the gate. Do the same with the second.
You do not need to be precise to the pixel — once both beams are on the correct symbols, the game pauses and a cutscene opens the ruins automatically. If nothing happens, the beam is on the wrong symbol rather than slightly off-centre.
If you are still stuck
Two things go wrong most often:
- Using Accio or Depulso instead of Wingardium Leviosa. The pillars need to be lifted and rotated, not pushed. If you have not learnt Wingardium Leviosa yet, that is the actual blocker.
- Not looking up at the gate. The glowing symbols are on the gate face, not on the ground, and they are easy to miss in daylight. Stand back from the platform and look at the arch before touching a pillar.
